Katie Warren, Vice President
Graduating from USC with a Bachelor of Music (Voice) I sang with the William Hall Chorale and the LA Master Singers while a stay-at-homemom.I began substitute teachingin 1989 while studying at Pacific Oaks College. I received my MSTC Credential in 1993 and my Masters in Human Development (Easing the Computer into the Primary Classroom) in 2003. My background is in primary education teaching K-1, 1st and 2nd grades.

My adventures in technology began on a MAC, but being a LITE (Leaders Integrating Technology in Education) while teaching for Arcadia USD forced me to pay attention to the subtleties of the PC as well. I attribute my background knowledge of PC platforms to my colleagues in AUSD. I often joke that "I'm bi-platform!"

A Teacher Specialist in Technology for Glendale Unified School District since 2001 I had the pleasure of teaching computer and technology skills to students, teachers, administrators, and staff. Presently serving as Project Coordinator for Round 3 and Round 4 EETT Competitive grants for Glendale USD and Duarte USD, my knowledge of the ever-changing world of technology and its application to curriculum continues to expand. I still have opportunities to sing - for family and friends - and I truly love integrating technology in education!

Having only been an active CUE member since 2007, I count it a privilege to be on the board. Teaching for over twenty-seven years in the 5 – 8th grades, I have had a passion for technology in the classroom from the very beginning. I received my Masters degree in Educational Technology from Azusa Pacific University. My background includes, having a one-computer classroom for many years, the start-up of a computer lab, integrating technology in the classroom, and working on the Technology Committee with Association of Christian Schools International.  Currently, I am the technology teacher for junior high at Sonrise Christian School in Covina.  During the 2007/2008 school year I served on the Technology Committee that helped build our Laptop Learning Program (a laptop for every child).  My role quickly expanded into training other teachers and serving as the junior high technology mentor in many areas. A sixteen year member of CUE, I have had the privilege of serving on the SGVCUE Board for the last three years. My passion for technology in education served as the catalyst to earn my Masters Degree in Educational Technology from Azusa Pacific University. As a result of that program, I became the co-author of a book, now in its third edition, that focuses on successful implementation of multimedia in the classroom. My background as an educator includes eight years as a teacher in elementary classrooms, seven years as a site technology coordinator, and eleven years at Azusa Pacific University where I serve as adjunct faculty in the Ed Tech Masters program. The last seven years, I have been working as an educational consultant. In that capacity, I have had the opportunity to work private and public schools and teachers in their quest for technology integration in day-to-day curriculum. It has been a honor to serve as a Board member for the San Gabriel Valley CUE affiliate. One of my goals for SGVCUE is to continue building bridges to public school districts, private school organizations, and individuall classrooms to fill a very real need in the educational environment in our area. I’m the educational technology coordinator for a public school in the Glendale Unified School District; I teach computer skills and develop technology-integrated lessons for teachers and students in grades K-8. I also assist the teachers with technology related problems, service and professional development. I have served as a consultant to many other schools and districts, demonstrating how technology can be used to motivate students and enrich the curriculum. I currently teach in a Mac computer lab, however, I am equally comfortable using a PC. I’m thrilled to join the SGVCUE board and am looking forward to sharing ideas and helping to advance the use of technology in the classroom.

Those who know me and have seen me in the classroom know that I love teaching and working with students. I take a holistic approach to teaching in the computer lab and every day there are millions of teachable moments, opportunities for expansion, light bulb flashes of brilliance, and smiling faces. My motto is “Show What You Know” and many of our lab assignments involve multimedia presentations and online communication with a wide audience. I absolutely love working with children and they love me back. What could be better than that?
